gorath : culture
intelligent kinds that live on gorath and are relevant to the currently written maps.
kinds
naked apes
bipedal creatures that resemble earth’s humans in most ways, with hair mainly on the head and in smaller amounts across the body. they are the smallest ape civilization by number, and many of their cultures revolve around trade, communication, and craft. in the north east, where coastal winds keep the region comparatively warm, they are allied with the reptiles of the clear coasts.
maned apes
bipedal creatures with long to medium straight or wavy hair covering most of the body, with less hair on the face, hands, and feet. they are known for full brows and for settlement in the central western mountains, where black volcanic soils support very fertile farming. many roads in those lands were paved by maned apes.
wooly apes
bipedal creatures with short to medium curly or fuzzy hair across most of the body, with less hair on the face and brow than maned apes. their long arms make them strong climbers and well suited to defensive movement. they are settled through the south east and live among snow snoutlings and snow-bore hornlings.
snow snoutlings
short-haired rodent-like creatures with long snouts, thick insulating fur, strong arms, and tunneling capability. they evolved in the southern lands and the northern lands of the deep south. snow snoutlings have built vast, sometimes temporary, tunnel systems across the south, with some growing into small cities.
hard-shell hornlings
six-limbed insectoid beings with the form of stag beetles and a high head horn. only some beetle kinds can eat chlorba, making it a delicacy to many hard-shell hornlings. their digestion leaves deposits through the exoskeleton, making the shell hard, light, and somewhat flexible. the natural shape of the horn is often treated as a sign of lineage, though some reshape it while it is still soft in adolescence.
snow-bore hornlings
six-limbed insectoid beings with the form of stag beetles and a high head horn. they are major tunnelers of the south lands and have built underground kingdoms in snow caverns. among the many tunnel-making creatures of those regions, some of the most vast and ornate tunnel systems belong to snow-bore hornlings.
golems
living beings born through magical means and sustained entirely through magical means. they may be made of stone, wood, metal, or other enduring materials of the land. it is the age of golems, and while they have long existed, many peoples now more openly recognize them and experiment with making them.
post dead
living beings born through biological reproduction but sustained mostly through magical means. they are often creatures of stone, wood, or metal who were once flesh, bone, or other organic matter. they were once commonly called shells, though that term does not always describe what they are.
sprites
living beings born through magical means but sustained mostly through biological means, often as creatures of living plant matter, bug hives, or sometimes flesh. sprites are fickle and often mysterious, and some of the best wild mages in the land are sprites. their lives can be unpredictable and sometimes short, leading many to live intensely from day to day.
black coastlings
bipedal avians with two wings bearing hands and two ingrown legs suited for perching and hopping. their cultures are associated with heightened harmonic sciences and a liking for shiny things. they are coastal birds and remain lightly written compared to other kinds.
